R capability in SQL Server 2016

After the recent news that SQL Server 2016 will support R and old news that Microsoft acquired RevolutionR I was interested if SQL Server is planned to use parallel computing (map-reduce based realisation R) or existing open-source version. Attending seninars didn’t help as the technology is so new that all details are provided by the vendor sporadically via multiple sources. Finally it became clear. Microsoft’s answer is:

“… With Enterprise Edition, you also get the ScaleR libraries to overcome R’s inherent performance and scale limitations.”

That’s it! Both variants are planned to be delivered but the one for big data will be available only for Enterprise license owners.
